10 Dec 07 - Tories Launch Home-Buying Review
The Conservatives are launching their own review of the
home-buying process amid growing controversy over the Government's
Home Information Packs scheme.
The party has teamed up with Channel 4's "Location
Location Location" presenter Kirstie Allsopp,
along with housing industry expert Owen Inskip for the review,
which will analyse both the consumer side of buying and
selling a home and the industry's perspective.
The move comes after the Government announced it will introduce
additional HIPs to cover smaller one and two-bedroom homes
before the end of the year, costing homeowners hundreds
of pounds more to sell their property.
The Conservatives have already said they will scrap the
scheme if they secure power at the next General Election.
Shadow housing minister Grant Shapps said the review will
"invite submissions from people who really know this market,
like the industry experts and of course anyone who has ever
bought and sold a home".
