18 Oct 07 - Public Expect House Market To Grow
Most people are confident about the housing market with nearly two-thirds expecting
prices to continue to rise, research has revealed.
About 62% of people said they believe the property market
will grow in value, with just 21% predicting it will stagnate,
fall in value or even crash, the Association of Investment
Companies (AIC) said. But consumers who regularly invest
money in shares were less confident, with only 44% expecting
house prices to continue rising, while 48% think they will
stagnate or fall. However, the majority of consumers are
optimistic about the outlook for commercial property, with
55% expecting it to increase in value, although this falls
to 37% among active investors in shares.
Just over half of people think the UK housing market will
be the best performing sector during the coming year, compared
with just 15% of people who think the stock market will
outperform property. Active investors were more cautious
with a third expecting stocks and shares to deliver the
best returns, compared with just 15% who favour property.
