25 Sept 07 - Major Regeneration Scheme Unveiled
Council bosses have unveiled a major regeneration project
in Leeds, which will see dozens of run-down homes in the
city demolished. More than 70 dilapidated properties in
the Beverleys area of Beeston will be torn down and replaced
with new houses and flats.
Leeds City Council believes the £5.96m Government-funded
scheme will kick-start regeneration by giving private developers
and buy-to-let investors the confidence to put money into
the up-and-coming area. Councillor Les Carter said: "It
is projects like this that drive an area forward. "The council
is investing money in replacing old and obsolete housing
to create greater confidence in an area, attracting others
to come and invest." He added: "This new scheme will add
to the millions of pounds the council is pumping into some
of our most deprived neighbourhoods, narrowing the gap between
them and the rest of the city."
